RECALL: Possible Salmonella Contamination with Beef Hooves and Pig Ears
As a result of potential salmonella contamination, the FDA has issued a health alert, and PetSmart is voluntarily recalling Beef Hooves manufactured by Pet Carousel under the brand names Choo Hooves, Dentley's, Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. In addition, the FDA has warned of similar contamination of pig ears with the brand names of Doggie Delight and Pet Carousel. The treats were manufactured in such a way that there may be contamination between batches.
While there have not been any reported illnesses as a result of the contamination, the FDA is warning consumers not to handle the affected treats or give them to pets. This is particularly important because the salmonella infection can be transmitted to humans as well as animals.
